7 Adut Akech Fashion Moments That Will Inspire Your Look Into 2022 and Beyond
Born in South Sudan and raised in Kenya, Adut Akech has been making waves in the fashion industry since 2017. Adut’s mother and five siblings moved to Australia as refugees when she was six years old. Then, Adut started modeling in local fashion shows at 16, eventually moving on to Melbourne Fashion Week, which manifested itself into launching her career where she shot some photos for a potential Paris Fashion Week casting with Saint Laurent. Merely days after the shoot, Adut debuted at the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2017 runway show, where her career took off.
At 22, she has graced the catwalk of fashion houses such as Saint Laurent, Valentino, Dior, Versace, Fendi, and more. With New York Fashion Week kicking off next month, we compiled a list of some of our favorite looks from Adut Akech, both on and off the runway.
In 2019, Akech received the Model of The Year Award from the British Fashion Council. Pierpaolo Piccioli of Valentino designed the emerald gown she wore. Akech is glowing in this beautiful shade of green, and her accessories complement the dress perfectly without detracting from the look.
At the 2021 BFA Awards, Akech presented the Isabella Blow Award to fashion stylist/editor Ibrahim Kamara. Akech shined again in this beautiful violet gown custom-made by Sergio Hudson and styled by Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald.
The theme for the 2021 Met Gala was American Independence, and Akech rocked it. The mullet looked beautiful on her paired with the smokey eye and stunning white suit by Michael Kors. Additionally, she donned jewelry by Pasquale Bruni, with makeup and hair by Keita Moore.
In the summer of 2020, Akech appeared in CHAOS SixtyNine: The Chanel Issue, and the first photo from the spread showcases her beautiful smile. This coral robe and heel combination encapsulates the aura of summer, which is fun, playful, and stylish.
At the 2021 Milan Fashion Week, Adut Akech walked the runway for Fendi x Versace. The power in this look from “Fendace” is lavish, with a gorgeous Akech dripping in gold.
The Jaquemus Spring/Summer 2021 show set was ethereal, and Akech is just as dreamy. Jaquemus continues to elevate the fashion world with the settings and aesthetic of the runway becoming part of the wardrobe. Here, Akech captures its glamorous essence.
Finally, in a batch of looks for the Zimmermann Resort 2021 ready-to-wear campaign, Akech channels a chic, romantic motif in this ruffled pink and green floral dress. The crystal blue water backdrop has us daydreaming about vacationing and wearing the pieces Adut wore on the runway.
