Beyoncé, Issa Rae, Jennifer Hudson, & More Nominated For a 2022 Golden Globe Award
Today the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the nominees of the 2022 Golden Globe Awards. Among the celebrities nominated are five-time Golden Globe nominee Beyoncé, EDITION cover star Issa Rae, vocal powerhouse Jennifer Hudson, and many more. Snoop Dogg and HFPA president Helen Hoehne revealed the nominated TV and film projects in real-time. The 79th annual awards show will be held on January 9th, 2022.
Beyoncé is up against Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas (nominated for co-writing the No Time to Die theme song) in the Best Original Song – Motion Picture category. Beyoncé and her collaborator DIXSON dropped “Be Alive” last month with the release of the biopic King Richard. The film, which stars Will Smith, puts a spotlight on Richard Williams—father of award-winning tennis players Venus and Serena.
Other Best Original Song nominees include Lin-Manuel Miranda for “Dos Orugitas” from Encanto, Van Morrison for Belfast’s “Down to Joy,” plus Carole King, Jennifer Hudson, and Jamie Hartman for Respect’s “Here I Am (Singing My Way Home).” The latter is a song off the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect. Carole King co-wrote the track with songwriter Jamie Hartman, and the track is produced by Will.i.am. King and her husband Gerry Goffin co-wrote one of Franklin’s biggest hits, “(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman.”
In the world of acting, Billy Porter is in the running for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama. The show Pose is also up for Best Television Series, Drama. Uzo Aduba received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama, for her role on the HBO series In Treatment. The talented Issa Rae is nominated for Best Actress in a Television Series, Musical/Comedy for her role as herself in Insecure. Tracee Ellis Ross is nominated in the same category as Issa Rae for Best Actress in a Television Series, Musical/Comedy Series for her role as Rainbow Johnson in the acclaimed sitcom black-ish. Plus, Ross’ on-camera husband Andre Johnson, played by Anthony Anderson, is nominated for Best Television Actor, Musical/Comedy Series. Finally, Cynthia Erivo is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress, Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her performance as Aretha Franklin in Genius: Aretha.
Denzel Washington and Will Smith compete for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama with Smith up for his role as Richard Williams in King Richard and Washington as Macbeth in The Tragedy of Macbeth.
