Emeli Sandé Offers a Glimmer of Hope in Refreshing Video “Brighter Days”
This week, internationally-acclaimed singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé has released the video for the new song “Brighter Days,” which has an uplifting message anyone can appreciate. The single marks her first release of 2022.
The video shows the singer playing the piano and singing in a dreary, decaying setting. However, the atmosphere transitions as she sings lyrics of hope. “But there’s gonna be brighter days, brighter days/I’ll keep you lifted when you’re losing faith,” she sings in the chorus. “There’s gonna be brighter days, brighter days/Though it seems distant, know the world will change. Then, the initially gloomy and lifeless room gets revitalized with blossoming flowers.
“‘Brighter Days’ is inspired by the truth that even in the darkest moments, there is always hope. We might have to dig deeper to feel it, but hope is always there,” Sandé said in a statement. “Staying anchored in hope and faith is our victory and defeat only comes when we lose sight of this power. ‘Brighter Days’ is an affirmation — it's a reminder of our collective power to make a choice and create our reality.”

“The power of the collective mind is remarkable, and I believe that no matter the external circumstances forced upon us, we have dominion over the mind and spirit. Brighter days are coming,” she added. “Stepping out of the darkness is within our control. Fear is not ours; pessimism does not belong to us; defeat is not our choice. We choose brighter days, and this song is the voice of hope, faith, and love.”
“Brighter Days” is a follow-up to the singles “Look What You’ve Done” and “Family,” ushering in the first of new music since 2019, which she describes as “an ode to resilience, rebirth, and renewal.” Last year, Sandé collaborated with UK rap and grime titans Bugzy Malone on “Welcome to the Hood” and Ghetts on “Sonya.” Sandé has also worked with Kendrick Lamar, Nile Rodgers, Wiley, Jools Holland, and many other A-list artists in her career.
Sandé’s long been a soul-bearing vocalist with emotive and honest songwriting chops. So, while we don’t know what the future holds for the soulful powerhouse, if “Brighter Days” is a foregleam of a new album, we’re in for a joyful listening experience.
