Over the past decade, Law Roach has created iconic fashion moments while simultaneously breaking the constraints the title “stylist” often has.
He’s known for creating culture-shifting looks (both editorially and on the red carpet) for stars like Megan Thee Stallion, Kerry Washington, Céline Dion, Bella Hadid and his longtime muse Zendaya (along with many others). And he’s done it all with grace and ensuring that he stays true to his values.
Roach has endured a journey to confidence and is now sharing all the lessons he’s picked up along the way in his new book, How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence From the World’s Only Image Architect (Abrams Image).
What’s the outfit you feel the most confident in and why?
Anything paired with a crisp white button-down shirt.
You’ve previously mentioned that clothing can evoke a message of self-love. Can you further specify how?
Clothing is our armor. If you feel good about what you’re wearing, it can empower you to channel self-love.

Your book is just as much about mental wellness as it is about fashion. What have you learned the most about yourself on your journey of self-discovery?
I have learned that happiness is a habit. And it needs to be worked on just like any other habit, like eating right, working out, practicing self-care, etc.
How would you want your fashion legacy to be defined?
I want my fashion legacy to be that I left the world a better place than it was when I came into it... that I did more than just put pretty girls in pretty dresses.
Along with the book, is there anything else you’re working on that you can tease?
I am working on something to help the next generation of stylists that will be announced in early fall.
