A new gym, a new coach, a new culture and life in Houston, and now a new ambassador title with Dior... French artistic gymnast Mélanie de Jesus dos Santos has made all the right moves to fulfill her dreams inside and outside the gym.

One of France’s most promising artistic gymnastics stars, Martinique-born Mélanie de Jesus dos Santos, 23, has already built an impressive résumé. She has earned four gold medals in events at the European Championships and recently won a bronze team medal at the World Gymnastics Championships held in Antwerp, Belgium—a medal that ended a 63-year wait for the French artistic gymnastics team. Despite injuries, de Jesus dos Santos established herself as a world-class force, coming in sixth in the uneven bars at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She now trains in Houston alongside Simone Biles and hopes to bring home an Olympic medal in her native Paris this summer.

Recently, as an extension of the exceptional partnership signed between the 2024 Paris Games and luxury goods group LVMH, Dior has chosen de Jesus dos Santos as its new ambassador for the Olympic and Paralympic Games taking place in the City of Light, so dear to Christian Dior. The maison sees de Jesus dos Santos as an ideal spokesperson, sharing the brand’s values of audacity, creativity and excellence as she pursues her goals. With her mind set on the road to Paris, de Jesus dos Santos tells us how thrilled she is to be able to focus on her sport while also becoming part of her other passion in fashion.

Has your training routine changed from the 2020 Olympics compared to this year?

Yes, indeed, a lot of things have changed. First of all, I changed my coaches and moved to another country for a new Olympic preparation for Paris 2024, so my whole life changed! I had to learn gymnastics all over again because when I changed trainers, I also had to change my learning techniques. There’s also the fact that I’ve moved to a new country where I have to adapt to the language level and where I don’t have any family or acquaintances. So it’s a new adaptation.

Does the energy of the upcoming Paris Summer Olympics feel different?

Yes, it’s different because this year, it’s happening at home, so there’s a lot of excitement about being at home with our public in a beautiful venue at the Accor Arena. We really feel at home because we’ve taken part in several competitions in this arena; we know it, we’ll be more at ease. I think it will be an incredible Olympics in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

What are you looking forward to the most as a Dior brand ambassador?

First of all, I’m very happy to be an ambassador for the House of Dior and very honored to represent it. It’s hard to make myself available during the Olympic year, but afterward, I can attend fashion shows, meet Maria Grazia Chiuri, get to know the brand and its history, and meet the artisans. This partnership will bring me so much because the fashion world has always been my passion. I can’t wait to talk to the people at Dior and build things together.

What ethics or parallels do you share as an athlete with Maison Dior?

I would say it’s the values I’ve been taught since I was a little girl: sharing and authenticity. These are the values that are most important to me as an athlete, and they’re also found at the House of Dior.

“[SHARING AND AUTHENTICITY] ARE THE VALUES THAT ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO ME AS AN ATHLETE, AND THEY’RE ALSO FOUND AT THE HOUSE OF DIOR.” –MÉLANIE DE JESUS DOS SANTOS
