The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute has unveiled details for the Met Gala 2025, including this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Additionally, Vogue has announced a list of celebrated co-chairs, including Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Parrell Williams and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as an honorary co-chair.
The theme is inspired by author and associate professor Monica L. Miller’s 2009 novel Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The 2025 exhibition will include clothing, cinematography and other art compositions related to the fashion and social context of dandyism throughout history. The dress code for the event is expected to be announced in the coming months.
This year’s gala, Held May 5, 2025, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is anticipated to host approximately 600 guests. The guest list is kept secret until the evening of the event. Attendees from previous years have included Rihanna, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian and more.
Regarded as one of New York City’s most significant fundraising events, the Met Gala was established by Eleanor Lambert, fashion publicist and founder of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, in 1948 and organized by Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, for the first time in 1995.
Each year, the event garners support for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, which features over 33,000 costumes and accessories from seven centuries across five continents.
