Described by Virgil Abloh as “another canvas, another surface for human expression,” the debut of Off-White’s beauty collection, Paperwork (off---white.com), is another posthumous gift from the creative genius. Like so much of Abloh’s oeuvre, the collection is a revolutionary manifesto—shattering preconceived notions, celebrating diversity, humanity and empowering self-expression.

The genderless collection spans fragrances, nail polishes and makeup, launching with four Solution fragrances, six Imprint face and body solid pigment crayons, and six Color Matter nail polishes. The fragrances, created by Abloh in collaboration with famed perfumers Alexis Dadier, Jerome Epinette and Sidonie Lancesseur, are bottled in industrial glass made in Italy by Bormioli and topped with grip control knobs (replicas of the handles that close the vats found in industrial fragrance facilities). Throughout the collection, absent are the “instructions for use”—and the experience is playful, sensorial and uniquely customizable.

Inspiration from Abloh’s tagging and street-art references are seen in both the pigment crayons and Template (face and body stencils). Playful nail finishes include Pixel, a luminescent, multicolored glitter polish of laser-cut reflective shreds; and Decode, a quick-drying solvent that makes the white polish shatter as it dries for a purposefully imperfect crackled finish. The artful collection is conceived as a toolkit for bold self-expression.

Paperwork reestablishes beauty as an inclusive, fluid art form accessible to all ages, races and genders. In keeping with the maverick’s ethos, Abloh’s Paperwork encourages everyone to think beyond traditional beauty and ignites an expressive dialogue. An important conversation starter, indeed.
