Vacation season is soon upon us. Rhode co-founders Phoebe Vickers and Purna Khatau detail their stylish essentials and preview their resort 2023 collection.
What’s the inspiration behind this collection?
PK: The theme for our resort 2023 collection is A Suitcase Full of Rhode. The collection pieces work in harmony to add joy to midwinter and create a spirited optimism for warmer weather on the horizon. The collection is tied together by our iconic woodblock and safari-inspired prints, which are inspired by our favorite destinations in India. We were drawn toward using natural fabrics, such as cotton, to produce light and airy pieces that are optimal for warm weather travels.
Your vibrant prints are a reflection of the energy we have while on vacation.
PV: We hope that our clothes make customers feel they are dressed for anything when they put on one of our pieces, whether on vacation or just an ordinary day. That can mean everything from hiking Machu Pichu in our Ella dress in a pair of sneakers (that happened!) or taking the dress you just wore to the beach straight to a wedding with a change of shoes and accessories. We hope our customers feel ready for the unexpected, and when they put on our clothes are dressing for the fun they want to have.

Let’s dive into your suitcase! Break down some of your go-to getaway items.
PV: We’ve never named a dress after ourselves out of superstition, until I saw what came to be the Phoebe dress. I would wear this every day in every color if I could, hence the name, and it’s a perfect vacation do-it-all piece. I also always pack our signature Ella dress—the cotton and long sleeves offer the best sun protection while still being super comfortable in hot temperatures. These along with a simple pair of LoQ sandals and I don’t need much more.
PK: I always have a Rhode sweater set for the plane and Hartmann tweed luggage, as well as the Anya Hindmarch recycled canvas washbag customized with a picture of my kids!

How about skincare or beauty products?
PV: Dieux Deliverance serum and Instant Angel moisturizer, Pillowtalk Derm Major Fade serum, EltaMD sunscreen, Giorgio Armani lipstick in #500
PK: Osea Malibu body oil, Nivea lip balm, EltaMD, my hot water bottle! Never go on a trip without it.

What’s your favorite way to unwind on vacation?
PV: Floating in whatever body of water is nearest. Ocean preferred.
PK: Sleep! I have two young boys, so sleep is the greatest luxury of all.
What’s your favorite winter vacation destination and why?
PV: We both share the same favorite winter vacation destination, Kenya. A safari in the Masai Mara topped with a visit to the island of Lamu is our forever shared favorite, and one we have taken both together and apart.
