Actress and comedian Sasheer Zamata stirs up more mystical mischief as Jennifer Kale in Agatha All Along. Fans can expect a potent potion of humor and spellbound drama when the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s WandaVision spinoff series for Disney+ premieres on Sept. 12. Here, Zamata tells us what it’s like to play this powerful sorceress.

How does it feel to be selected to play Marvel’s Jennifer Kale?

I was so excited to be cast as Jennifer Kale. She plays so many roles in the Marvel comics and I’m excited for people to see my rendition of her. I like her journey in the show. All these characters are coven-less witches who have to learn to be a part of a team, and that’s very hard for Jennifer. Because of past experiences, she has a hard time trusting people, especially witches, but I love her growth throughout the show.

Were you already a fan of the Marvel Universe before getting this role?

I was a Marvel fan before I got this role. I’ve been dreaming of being a part of the MCU for years, and I’m so happy this is how I’m diving in. I was also a fan of WandaVision and thought it was so smart and different from the other work Marvel had been doing. So it was incredible to be working with the same minds who created that show on Agatha All Along.

What are you most excited about in portraying this powerful sorceress?

I already feel energetically inclined, so being asked to play a witch feels appropriate. I feel like I manifested this job. I remember emailing the creator, Jac Schaeffer, and asking, ‘Did you know you hired an actual witch?’ And I’m so excited for people to see this show and see so many different kinds of witches and their capabilities. There’s so much magic in the Marvel comics, and I can’t wait for the MCU to delve more into that space because I think audiences are going to love it.

How was your experience working with Kathryn Hahn and her iconic Agatha character?

I was already a fan of Kathryn Hahn and her work, but I feel like she does something special with this Agatha character. It was incredible watching her perform on set and I think she elevated the level of work we were doing. And I like the relationship our characters have. We kind of have a contentious love-hate dynamic, where we respect each other but also know how to get under the other’s skin, which makes for a lot of fun banter in our scenes.
