The 100 Black Men of Atlanta celebrated its annual 100 Honors Gala on Oct. 5th, a prestigious event recognizing leaders who have made significant contributions to their local community. This year’s gala theme, “Our Youth – Our City – Our Future”, highlighted the organization’s mission to improve the quality of life within the Atlanta community.
The event, which is the organization’s largest fundraiser to support its philanthropic work, began with a warm welcome from Chairman Sid Barron, who commended the organization’s commitment to mentoring and supporting young Black men.
The night’s honorees included Andre Dickens (the 61st Mayor of Atlanta and the city’s seventh Black mayor in a row) along with Google’s Global Head of Social Impact at Google, Reggie McKnight, Dr. Rashad Richey, United Negro College Fund’s CEO Michael Lomax and retired public school program administrator Dr. Albenny Price. Each honoree was recognized for both their professional achievements and their dedication to mentoring folks in the community.
“This organization has been doing an amazing job making sure that our youth and our opportunities for young Black men and our whole communities have been moving forward. In the honor of Maynard Jackson, equity, inclusion and opportunity is key,” Mayor Dickens shared in his speech for the Maynard H. Jackson Community Impact Award. “And this organization continues to push the envelope time and time again to make sure that we live up to that creed and those standards of opportunity that only the standard bearer of Atlanta can provide.”
Attendees and honorees alike enjoyed both dinner and entertainment throughout the evening, with the gala concluding with a heartfelt call to action, encouraging everyone to continue investing in the future of the next generation.
The success of this year’s 100 Honors Gala is partly attributed to its various sponsors: Google, The AJ Terrell Foundation, Bank of America, Publix, Georgia Pacific, Delta, AT&T, Chick fil A, the Atlanta Braves, Grady, Homrich Berg and others. The support reflects Atlanta’s long-standing community efforts.
